Reinventing Download Acceleration with Modern, Open-Source Engineering
Why should the utilities managing your daily downloads look like they were built for Windows 98, demand annual subscription fees, or compromise your privacy with third-party adware?
The Origin of DORO: Why We Built a Modern Alternative
For more than two decades, Internet Download Manager (IDM) set the industry benchmark for multi-segment file acceleration on Windows. But while modern web technologies advanced toward adaptive streaming protocols (HLS/M3U8/DASH) and desktop software embraced fluid, elegant user experiences, download utilities remained frozen in the late 1990s.
Meanwhile, many other so-called "free" download tools took an unethical turn: bundling hidden browser toolbars, coin miners, intrusive analytics SDKs, or locking vital features like 4K video downloads behind aggressive paywalls. Even worse, millions of creators and gamers seeking download managers fell victim to fake cracks, keygens, and pirated software infected with trojans and info-stealers.
DORO was born to change this landscape forever. Our mission is straightforward: engineer a download engine that outperforms proprietary legacy tools, natively decrypts protected streaming media, delivers an ultra-smooth modern user experience, and provides all of it 100% free under the permissive MIT open-source license.
The 5 Pillars of the DORO Engineering Pledge
Every line of code in DORO is written according to five non-negotiable promises to our users.
Pure Speed Without Artificial Throttling
Proprietary utilities often restrict free users to 4 or 8 connections. DORO provides full 32-segment parallel acceleration to everyone out of the box, with dynamic chunk halving that keeps all TCP pipes fully saturated.
Zero Adware, Zero Bundles, Zero Malware
The DORO installer installs exactly one thing: DORO. No sponsored software, no bundled browser extensions, no analytics trackers, and no promotional popups. Verified clean by over 60 antivirus engines on VirusTotal.
100% Offline-First Privacy Architecture
DORO requires no accounts, no signups, and never phones home. All your download queues, settings, and file paths remain strictly on your local PC in %APPDATA%\DORO\. We believe download managers should operate like offline calculators.
Native Media & Stream Decryption Built-In
DORO doesn't just download static files. It bundles a customized local FFmpeg pipeline and yt-dlp media engine that automatically sniff, assemble, and decrypt streaming HLS/M3U8 videos into standard MP4 files seamlessly.
Technical Architecture & Engineering Stack
DORO blends high-throughput native Windows I/O with modern reactive desktop technology:
Continuously monitors transfer rates across up to 32 worker threads. When any segment finishes early, the dispatcher immediately halves the largest remaining byte chunk to prevent connection starvation.
Pre-allocates sparse temporary buffers with periodic physical disk fsync flushes. Prevents hard drive fragmentation and guarantees zero byte loss in the event of an unexpected power cut.
Browser extension connects to the desktop app exclusively via loopback 127.0.0.1:6870 using origin verification. No web sockets open to the public internet, ensuring total local isolation.
Integrated BitTorrent peer-to-peer client capable of handling magnet links, multi-tracker DHT resolution, and sequential video streaming without requiring separate torrent clients.

v1.2.0 & Beyond — Roadmap & Future Goals
In DevelopmentScheduled speed limits by time of day, multi-language internationalization (i18n), browser cookie synchronization for paywalled filehosts, and experimental Linux/macOS companion clients.
The 100% Offline-First Privacy Pledge
Your downloads are your personal business. Unlike cloud-connected services that require logins, log your IP addresses, or analyze download URLs, DORO is engineered to function like a standalone offline calculator.
Zero Telemetry & Analytics
DORO contains zero Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Sentry, or tracking beacons. It never connects to an analytics server under any circumstance.
Local Loopback Isolation
The browser extension communicates with the desktop engine exclusively over 127.0.0.1:6870 using secret header tokens. No external access is permitted.
No Account or Email Needed
You never need to create an account, log in with Google, or provide an email address. Download the software and start using it immediately.
Local On-Disk Storage Only
Download lists, categories, and settings are stored locally on your machine in %APPDATA%\DORO\ in plain JSON format. You have 100% ownership.
